Two 98 Point Vintages of The Sensational Domaine de Chevalier Blanc
Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is one of Bordeaux’s most impressive and compelling white wines. Made in small amounts, it has long been cherished by those in the know as it provides a very of quality and exclusivity rare in a wine this affordable. We are delighted to have two 98 vintages to offer, the 2016 and 2017, directly from cellars in Bordeaux.
From a spectacular vineyard in Pessac, the home of Bordeaux’s finest whites, Domaine de Chevalier makes just 1,000 cases of this brilliant white in a typical vintage. A combination of routinely huge scores and limited availability ensures that there is never a huge amount left after release, making a back-vintage parcel such as this a compelling and likely fleeting opportunity.
The 2017 is “really powerful and structured with superb muscle and phenolic tension” and is “Incredible” for James Suckling. The 2016 is also fantastic as “the power is underplayed and the enormous, herbal and mineral depth steals up on you slowly and then whisks you away”. Each vintage receives a sensesational 98 points from him.

This is really powerful and structured with superb muscle and phenolic tension. Yet, it’s formed and polished, layered and dense. Full-bodied, but energetic and focused. Vibrant acidity. Still very shy on the nose, but the candied citrus, fresh melon, pear and quince notes come through on the palate, together with discreet, toasty oak. Although this is really concentrated, the power is underplayed and the enormous, herbal and mineral depth steals up on you slowly and then whisks you away. You could enjoy it now, but there’s enormous aging potential. A blend of 70 per cent sauvignon and 30 per cent semillon. Try in 2021. (2019) www.jamessuckling.com
