Two 99pt scores and "a no brainer to recommend" (JA) - The 2019 Chappellet Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon

We are thrilled to be able to offer you these cases of the 99-point rated 2019 Chappellet Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon today at market leading prices. This is an excellent opportunity to get a hold of a Napa gem that provides terrific value and, as Anson states, is “a no-brainer to recommend”.

Pritchard Hill is a superb place to grow structured and elegant Cabernets, located on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains. In the hands of Chappellet, the Cabernet from here is never less than exceptional and ages magnificently.

The 2019, which has two 99-point scores and flirts with perfection is a fantastic example of this. For Perrotti-Brown, it “ storms out of the glass with profound scents of crème de cassis, blackberry preserves, licorice and mulberries, plus hints of unsmoked cigars, wild sage and tar” and “delivers fantastic intensity and great poise, offering fine-grained, ripe tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and mineral laced”. For Anson meanwhile this is “delicious” and “is a great example of mountain fruit Cabernet”.

99 pts Lisa Perrotti-Brown

“A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is another wonderfully evocative triumph from this family-owned Pitchard Hill pioneer. Deep garnet-purple colored, it storms out of the glass with profound scents of crème de cassis, blackberry preserves, licorice and mulberries, plus hints of unsmoked cigars, wild sage and tar. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers fantastic intensity and great poise, offering fine-grained, ripe tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and mineral laced.”  (Nov 2020, Drink 2022-2052)

This is a great example of mountain fruit Cabernet, from celebrated winemaker Philip Corallo-Titus and director David Frankie. Glass-staining ruby in colour; intense and concentrated, with inky waves of blueberry and cassis fruits, blocks of bitter black chocolate, velvety tannins that take their time to let the fruit out. This is a tiny production wine from the wonderful 2019 vintage (for me, flying against some of the American critics). Delicious. First time on the Place de Bordeaux, and a standout in the year’s wines. 100% new French oak. (July 2023, Drink 2028-2044)

Offered subject to final confirmation and remaining unsold. Available in 8-12 weeks in the UK. Offer expires 23rd December 2024.
