Cecile Tremblay - The Rare & Exceptional 2020s

As the niece of Burgundian legend Henri Jayer, Cecile Tremblay’s wines are easily among the region’s most coveted but with total holdings a minuscule 4ha, they are as rare as they are desirable. We are, therefore, delighted to have a selection of original cases of the excellent 2020s to offer.

The exclusive nature of Tremblay’s wines mean that they are part of a small group (Rayas, DRC, Raveneau and Sine Qua Non might be others) that are often traded as single bottles because full original cases are so hard to find. It makes a selection like this that includes array of cuvees across the classifications a tremendous opportunity.

They are wines that few ever get the chance to sample, let alone own in anything like good quantities, so please do take a look and get in touch if you would like any secured:

2020 Cecile Tremblay, Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru
(1*75cl OC) @ £2,200 per bottle in bond
96-98 points Neal Martin
The 2020 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is very intense on the nose, a mixture of red and blueber fruit, just a faint touch of peppermint. Plenty of energy here. The palate is medium-bodied with chiselled tannins, perfectly judged acidity, quite saline in the mouth with a mineral-driven finish that expands wonderfully. There is an abiding sense of completeness here. Outstanding. (2021) www.vinous.com Drink 2026-2050

2020 Cecile Tremblay, Echezeaux du Dessus Grand Cru
(1*75cl OC) @ £1,900 per bottle in bond
94-96 points Neal Martin
The 2020 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru has a very intense bouquet with vivacious red fruit, blood orange and brown spices, just a touch of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and quite structured. This will clearly need time, the most backward of Tremblay’s cuvées, but it will be worth the wait. 2020 Cecile Tremblay, Chambolle Musigny Les Feusselottes 1er Cru
(6*75cl OC) @ £5,850 per case in bond
93-95+ points William Kelley
Tremblay produced five barrels of the 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Feusselottes, a wine that is especially successful this year. Wafting from the glass with notes of orange rind, raspberries, red plums, rose petals and spices, it’s medium to full-bodied, lively and sensual, its velvety structuring tannins entirely concealed by its ample core of bright, vibrant fruit. 2020 Cecile Tremblay, Chambolle Musigny Cabottes
(3*75cl OC) @ £1,800 per case in bond
92-94 points Neal Martin
The Chambolle-Musigny Les Cabottes, picked over two tries through the vineyard, offers a mixture of red and black fruit, incense and light peony scents, just a faint tang of marmalade in the background. This feels very composed. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, crisp acidity, taut and fresh with a very elegant and poised finish. Excellent. (2021) www.vinous.com Drink 2024-2038

2020 Cecile Tremblay, Morey St Denis Tres Giraud
(6*75cl OC) @ £2,650 per case in bond
90-92 points Neal Martin
The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Très Girard has a vibrant bouquet with blackberry, cranberry and light rose petals scents, almost pastille-like in purity. The palate is medium-bodied with lush, pliant tannins matched by nigh-perfectly judged acidity. A pinch of cracked black pepper on the finish et voilà…a quite delicious Morey-Saint-Denis to drink over the next 10 to 12 years. (2021) www.vinous.com Drink 2024-2038

2020 Cecile Tremblay, Nuits St Georges Murgers 1er Cru
(6*75cl OC) @ £4,250 per case in bond
Not yet tasted

2020 Cecile Tremblay, Vosne Romanee VV
(3*75cl OC) @ £1,485 per case in bond
90-92+ points William Kelley
The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes is, as usual, more reserved at this early stage. Exhibiting notions of plums, dark berry fruit, sweet spices and toasted bread, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and seamless, with bright acids and a long, resonant finish. (2022) www.robertparker.com

2020 Cecile Tremblay, Bourgogne Cote D’Or
(6*75cl OC) @ £1,950 per case in bond
89-91 points William Kelley
The 2020 Bourgogne Côte d’Or is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with hints of petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, vibrant and fleshy, it’s a deep, lively wine with promising structure and back-end grip to sustain bottle age. As I’ve written before, this cuvée corresponds with the bottling formerly known as “La Croix Blanche,” and it derives from well-situated parcels in the communes of Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny.
