"Van Canneyt has surpassed himself" (WK) Hudelot-Noellat's Stellar 2018s

“Charles Van Canneyt has surpassed himself with the 2018 vintage, producing a set of wines that rivals his 2016s and 2015s as his finest to date
 – Wiliam Kelley

Nestled among some of the finest Grand Cru vineyards of Burgundy, the Vosne Romanee 1er Crus of Malconsorts, Les Suchots and Les Beaux Monts are superbly placed, and always worth seeking out. One of the best producers is Domaine Hudelot-Noellat and the 2018s are superb, as William Kelley says above, some of the finest ever made here. They are vanishingly rare, so we are delighted to have some of each to offer.

Bottled only in magnums (just 300 in a typical vintage), the Malconsorts is a gem. For William Kelley, it is the most reserved premier cru in the cellar” and On the palate, it’s full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a deep and concentrated core”.

The Suchots is full-bodied, rich and enveloping, its textural attack segueing into a deep and layered core” and Beaux Monts so impressive that Kelley argues “Readers who are unable to secure a few bottles of Hudelot-Noellat’s Richebourg this year should consider consoling themselves with this Beaumonts, as the latter tastes in many respects like the former’s junior sibling”.

A superb trio. Do take a look and let us know if you would like to secure any of these cases or magnums.

As usual, the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts is the most reserved premier cru in the cellar, unwinding slowly in the glass with aromas of cherries, berries and cassis mingled with notes of grilled squab and smoked meats. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a deep and concentrated core that’s still youthfully tight-knit. This is a Malconsorts with a brilliant future. The 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is showing brilliantly this year, wafting from the glass with a deep-pitched bouquet of cassis, blackberries, spices and dark chocolate. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, rich and enveloping, its textural attack segueing into a deep and layered core, concluding with a long and penetrating finish. (2020) www.robertparker.com
2018 Hudelot Noellat, Vosne Romanee Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru
@ £1,500 per case 3cs (6*75cl OC) in bond
*Only 1900 bottles produced*
92-94 points William Kelley
Another great success this year is the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts, a brilliant cuvée in the making that bursts with aromas of cassis, cherries, smoked duck, dried flowers and rich soil tones. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, rich and textural, with a multidimensional core of lavishly ripe but succulent fruit that entirely conceals the wine’s structuring tannins. Readers who are unable to secure a few bottles of Hudelot-Noellat’s Richebourg this year should consider consoling themselves with this Beaumonts, as the latter tastes in many respects like the former’s junior sibling.
