Wine Lovers Cellar: Part 2: Clos de Tart & Great White's from Roulot & Leflaive

We have recently acquired a delicious ‘Wine Lovers Cellar’ from a private collector who purchased these wines upon release and has kept them in professional storage ever since.

We divided this collection into several parts, with the third part available later this month.

Today, we are delighted to present Part 2, featuring an outstanding selection of Clos de Tart and prestigious whites from Roulot and Leflaive.

Appealing notes from the critics who say “remains an impressive and forthright Clos de Tart…aftertaste is unbelievably long…turned out brilliantly.” & “Sweet spot Outstanding…Lovely juice…Wonderful…Excellent & electrifying Puligny ‘19 from Leflaive.”

These are offered in pristine condition, from superb provenance and at very competitive prices. These are currently en route to Singapore and will be available for delivery in early December.

“The 2010 Clos de Tart Grand Cru vies with the 2005 and 2009 as the best wine Sylvain Pitiot made during his tenure. It was picked from September 28 to October 6 at just 21hl/ha with 13.6° alcohol (no La Forge de Tart produced). The detailed, extraordinarily pure bouquet displays impressive focus. If anything, this appears to have intensified on the nose in recent years, presenting a mixture of red and black fruit, forest floor and just a touch of girolles. The palate is very well balanced, grippier than I recall in 2015, and quite saline and masculine. The demonstrative, assertive finish needs a little more grace. To be honest, I have found this wine more praiseworthy in the past, although it remains an impressive and forthright Clos de Tart.”

2016 Clos de Tart, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
SGD $4,200 ($4,578 inc GST) per case (x6 OWC) – 1 case available

“The 2016 Clos de Tart Grand Cru, cropped at 35hl/ha, is the first year farmed biodynamically. This was completely breathtaking in barrel, and now, in bottle, nothing has changed in that respect. It has an ineffably complex bouquet, not as intense as it showed in barrel yet extremely deep and cerebral, black fruit mingling with forest floor, crushed stone and a touch of sea spray. The palate is perfectly balanced with a deceivingly understated entry, before a wave of black and red fruit crashes over the senses. It is framed by supremely fine tannin, the intensity building toward a crescendo as it fans out. The aftertaste is unbelievably long, remaining in the mouth 60 seconds after the wine has departed.”

2019 Clos de Tart, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
SGD $5,100 ($5,559 inc GST) per case (x6 OWC) – 2 cases available

97 Points William Kelley
“The 2019 Clos de Tart Grand Cru has turned out brilliantly. Mingling notes of wild berries and cherries with hints of peonies, rose petal, orange rind, exotic spices and musk, it’s full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a velvety attack that segues into a fleshy, textural mid-palate defined by depth and purity of fruit, concluding with a long and penetrating finish.”

2017 Roulot, Meursault
SGD $2,700 ($2,943 inc GST) per case (x6 OC) – 2 cases available

90 Points William Kelley
“Gently sun-kissed scents of Asian pear, white flowers and honeycomb introduce the 2017 Meursault Village, a medium to full-bodied, satiny-textured and elegantly fleshy wine derived from the Clos de la Baronne, Crotot, Gruyaches and Sous la Velle; as that palette of lieux-dits implies, it’s the most open-knit, gourmand and forward Meursault in the domaine’s range.”

2019 Roulot, Meursault Porusot 1er Cru
SGD $4,500 ($4,905 inc GST) per case (x6 OC) – 1 case available

92/94 Points Allen Meadows – ‘Sweet spot Outstanding’
“Restrained if overtly spicy green fruit, acacia and lemon rind aromas complement the detailed, powerful and concentrated bigger-bodied flavors that brim with sappy dry extract that does a fine job of buffering the very firm acid spine supported the very dry and citrus inflected finish. This tautly muscular effort is quite tightly wound, and I would describe the 2019 version of the Porusot as more refined than usual.”

2014 Leflaive, Puligny Montrachet Clavoillon 1er Cru
SGD $3,600 ($3,924 inc GST) per case (x6 OWC) – 1 case available

90/93 Points Allen Meadows – ‘Outstanding’
“Relatively firm reduction knocks down the nose and about all that can be said is that the underlying fruit seems ripe. Otherwise the rich, generously proportioned, fleshy and full-bodied flavors are solidly concentrated and a bit more mineral-driven than usual while ending in an intense, attractively textured and impressively lingering finish. This stylish effort displays lovely balance and a fine sense of underlying tension and overall, this is notably more complex than it usually is at this early stage.”

2017 Leflaive, Puligny Montrachet Clavoillon 1er Cru
SGD $7,200 ($7,848 inc GST) per case (x12 OWC) – 1 case available

92 Points Allen Meadows
“An overtly citrus-infused and still almost completely primary nose offers up notes of relatively elegant green apple, lavender and soft jasmine tea wisps. There is a lovely subtlety to the agreeably textured medium-bodied flavors that are a bit finer than they usually are, all wrapped in a sappy, delicious, complex and focused finale. Not surprisingly given the large format bottling, this is still very much on the way up and I would strongly advise allowing this up to another decade. Lovely juice.”

2019 Leflaive, Batard Montrachet Grand Cru
SGD $9,000 ($9,810 inc GST) per case (x6 OWC) – 1 case available

96 Points Neal Martin
“The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru shows a little more clarity, a touch more crystalline on the nose compared to the Bienvenue, scents of Granny Smith apples, petrichor and gunflint. It is controlled and penetrating. The palate is extremely well balanced with a fine silver bead of acidity that cuts through the concentrated malic fruit, a dash of pepper towards the finish that fans out gloriously, sour lemon and grapefruit lingering on the aftertaste. Wonderful.”

2019 Leflaive, Puligny Montrachet
SGD $2,100 ($2,289 inc GST) per case (x6 OWC) – 1 case available

91 Points Neal Martin
“The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Village, matured in 15% new oak, has an intense bouquet with cold flint and sea cave aromas that you would guess come from a much cooler growing season. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a touch of bitter lemon and a dab of spice towards the cohesive and quite persistent finish. Very long.”

2019 Leflaive, Puligny Montrachet Clavoillon 1er Cru
SGD $3,300 ($3,597 inc GST) per case (x6 OWC) – 2 cases available

93 Points Neal Martin
“The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon 1er Cru has an austere nose that demands coaxing from the glass; struck flint and sea spray scents, cool, calm and collected. The palate is taut on the entry, then fans out with glee, notes of dessicated orange peel, white peach and tangerine, a lovely bitterness that counterbalances the concentration on the finish. Excellent.”

2019 Leflaive, Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres 1er Cru
SGD $3,900 ($4,251 inc GST) per case (x6 OWC) – 1 case available

94 Points Neal Martin
“The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has a little more amplitude compared to the Clavaillon, scents of Granny Smith apples and dewy meadow on a cold morning. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a little more weight and girth than the Clavaillon, not to mention a touch more salinity and race on the persistent finish. Excellent.”

2019 Leflaive, Puligny Montrachet Les Pucelles 1er Cru
SGD $5,100 ($5,559 inc GST) per case (x6 OWC) – 1 case available

95+ Points Neal Martin
“The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles 1er Cru is more timid on the nose following on from the Les Combettes and this needed more encouragement from the glass. Cold stone, granite and flint aromas are the order of the day, very well defined and precise. The palate is very concentrated with a lot of grip, the volume of this Les Pucelles towards the finish, energetic and very persistent in the mouth. This is another electrifying Puligny ‘19 from Leflaive.”
