The 2025 Bordeaux En Primeur campaign kicks off today with the release of Chateau Pontet Canet.
Rated at a very impressive 96-98+ points by Antonio Galloni, just pipping the 96-98 point fellow Pauillac, the First Growth of Mouton Rothschild, this is a serious Pontet Canet that offers compelling value given the quality in the bottle.
Galloni came out with his thoughts on the 2025 vintage yesterday and, like us, was highly impressed by what he tasted from the 2025 harvest overall. For him, “The best 2025s are tremendous, some of the best wines I have ever tasted”. Of Pauillac, in particular, he writes, “Pauillac is jam-packed with great wines in 2025… Lafite-Rothschild and Pontet-Canet are especially compelling”.
For him, Pontet is a star this year and “a wine of exquisite class. Silky, aromatic and vibrant… all finesse” and it is “one of the more refined, sublimely beautiful wines of the year”. Interestingly, he writes, “this could turn out even better than my note suggests”. It’s a big performance from Pontet that gets the campaign off to an exciting start.

The 2025 Pontet-Canet is a wine of exquisite class. Silky, aromatic and vibrant, the 2025 is all finesse. Crushed red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal and a gentle hint of spice are all wonderfully knit together. Pontet-Canet is one of the more refined, sublimely beautiful wines of the year. This could turn out even better than my note suggests. Tasted two times. Drink 2033-2065. [2026]
