Casa Dragones: ‘The best sipping Tequila in the world’.

CNN Travel have called this ‘the best sipping Tequila in the world’. Having tasted this ourselves in recent weeks, the Vinum team would fully agree. We are of course talking about Casa Dragones Tequila. One of the finestTequilas on the market today and a sure fire way to add some variety and envy to any drinks collection. Casa Dragones has earned itself a spot at Tequila’s top table and with very good reason. Here we explore a little more behind what makes this such a special spirit.

Established in 2009, Casa Dragones is based in the heart of Mexico. The brand was co-founded and is led by Berta Gonzalez Nieves, current CEO and the first female Maestra Tequilera to be certified by the Mexican Academy of Tequila Tasters. Casa Dragones is named after the legendary Dragones cavalry. They were an elite Mexican unit of soldiers known for showing great courage and spirit.

The ethos behind Casa Dragones is to produce exceptional quality Tequila while remaining committed to sustainable production methods. The idea is to produce small-batch, ultra-premium spirit, hand-crafted using the highest quality raw materials.

The brand takes great care in sourcing exceptional quality Agave from specially selected farmers who share Casa Dragones’ ethos around sustainability and environmental protection. The aim is make sure that the production of Tequila is secure for future generations to come.

The Blue Agave is sourced from fields located within the Eje Volcanico Transversal, or the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, in Jalisco, Tequila. This is the heart Tequila. The volcanic soils along with the climate and altitude are ideal for the production of the very finest Blue Agave.

There are two main bottlings in the range:

The Joven by Casa Dragones. Thisd is a blend of silver Tequila and Extra-Aged Tequila, combining to produce a spirit that is smooth and complex with hints of vanilla and spice.

Casa Dragones Blanco. This showcases the purity and essence of the Blue Agave with subtle citrus notes along with a natural sweetness.

Casa Dragones has worked extensively with chefs and eminent figures in the world of food to display Tequila’s ability to pair with gastronomy. The recommendation is to enjoy both spirits from a champagne flute. they both pair beautifully well with shellfish, especially oysters. Some of the famous chefs to have paired their own dishes with this exquisite Tequila include:

Enrique Olvera at Pujol, Mexico City (No. 5 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022) who pairs Casa Dragones Joven with freshly caught fish grilled in a 500 year old method called ‘zarandeado’. This balances the gently charred notes of the fish with the sweet roasted notes of the agave.

Thomas Keller of The French Laundry in Yountville, California matches the Casa Dragones Joven with a bittersweet chocolate tart. This plays on the pairing of hazelnut with the spicy understones in the Tequila.

Jorge Vallejo at Quintonil in Mexico City (No. 9 in The World’s Best 50 Restaurants) has created a smoked crab taco with lime, watermelon and radish. This complements the light and citric notes of the Casa Dragones Joven.

With a dedication to craftsmanship, sustainability and tradition, Casa Dragones is a must-have for all spirits aficionados. Do let us know if you would like further information by emailing [email protected].
