Based in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Leflaive is widely recognised as one of the definitive estates of the Côte de Beaune. The estate achieved international renown under the visionary leadership of the late Anne-Claude Leflaive, who pioneered the complete conversion of the vineyards to biodynamic farming by 1997.

Today, under the direction of Brice de La Morandière, the domain manages approximately 24 hectares across Puligny-Montrachet’s most celebrated premier cru and grand cru appellations.

The Style Of Domaine Leflaive

The architectural hallmark of Domaine Leflaive wines is a combination of crystalline purity, vertical tension, and a distinct, chalky texturing. The wines are fermented using native yeasts and aged in French oak barrels, with a conservative approach to new wood to preserve the nuance of individual terroirs. Rather than emphasising broad ripeness or heavy extract, the vinification process prioritises structural focus, mineral drive, and high natural acidity. In their youth, these white Burgundies are frequently characterised by subtle reduction, citrus oil, and flint notes, which gradually give way to deep aromatic complexity, white floral layers, and a precise, saline finish.

Institutional Quality And Terroir Expression

The enduring reputation of Domaine Leflaive is rooted in its uncompromising approach to quality control and meticulous vineyard health. The estate holds enviable parcels across four grand crus, including Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside core premier crus like Clavoillon and Les Pucelles. Rigorous sorting, low yields, and an attentive response to premature oxidation have ensured that the domain's output remains highly consistent across different vintages. Collectors prize these wines for their exceptional cellaring potential, as the taut structure of a young bottle reliably develops into a harmonious, multi-layered profile over decades, cementing its status as a benchmark for fine Burgundy.
