2022 La Ca Nova
Thanks to a rare combination of immense quality and incredible value, La Ca’ Nova is one of our favorite producers in the North of Italy. Based in Barbaresco, the wines from here are superbly made from a roster of excellent vineyards, and they punch well above their very eye-catching price points.
The 2022s are excellent, and we are delighted to have two bottlings to offer: the Barbaresco Montestefano and Barbaresco Bric Mentina.
We’re not alone in loving these wines, Antonio Galloni is also a huge fan. After tasting these 2022s he wrote, “La Ca’ Nova remains one of Piedmont’s under-the-radar gems. Marco Rocca turns out wines of character that reflect the finest of the artisan tradition in the Langhe.” Indeed, he goes on to state, “These remain some of my favorite wines in all of Piedmont, and wines I regularly buy for my own cellar.”
Praise doesn’t get much higher and, accordingly, each of these comes highly recommended. For Galloni, the Montestefano is “the finest wine I tasted during my most recent visit” while the Bric Mentina is “bright and focused, with fine balance, especially for the year… a delight”.

The 2022 Barbaresco Montestefano is laced with macerated cherry, cinnamon, new leather and mocha. It possesses terrific mid-palate density and overall fleshiness, both signatures of this site. There’s good textural presence to wrap it all together. I especially admire how the Montestefano opens in the glass. It’s the finest wine I tasted during my most recent visit, and the most likely candidate to improve in bottle. (2025) Drink 2025-2034
2022 La Ca’ Nova, Barbaresco Montefico Bric Mentina

The 2022 Barbaresco Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina is bright and focused, with fine balance, especially for the year. Sage, mint, chalk, white pepper and orange peel give the Montefico its characteristic upper register. Vineyard signatures are very much present, even if somewhat attenuated in this vintage. This small-scale Montefico is a delight, but probably best suited for medium-term drinking. (2025) Drink 2025-2034
