2022 La Gravette de Certan
With perfect 100-point scores from Antonio Galloni, Lisa Perrotti-Brown and Jeb Dunnuck, Pomerol’s Vieux Château Certan is arguably the finest wine of the 2022 vintage. The winemakers here have clearly got everything right in this excellent vintage and made a very special wine.

If you’re hunting for the best buys in modern Bordeaux, La Gravette de Certan hits all the right notes. Not only is it made by one of the best winemaking teams in the business, but it comes from some outstanding plots in Pomerol’s most exclusive neighbourhoods. One of the plots that go into this is situated just in front of Le Pin, while another touches Lafleur.
These are younger vines that will no doubt eventually be used in the Grand Vin, but for the moment, they go into what is one of Bordeaux’s great bargains.

This is made from 100% Merlot and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes bounding out with exuberant notes of fresh blackberries and ripe plums, followed by hints of anise, mossy tree bark, and rose bud tea. The full-bodied palate delivers wonderfully satiny tannins with seamless freshness and generous blackberry flavors, finishing on a lingering ferrous note.
