We are delighted to offer cases of the incredibly rare Kongsgaard Syrah from three vintages: 2018, 2019 and 2021. Made in a non-interventionist style that lets this fabulous terroir shine, these are, in the words of Robert Parker, reds “that represent the essence of their varietal, vintage and vineyard.”
Kongsgaard is most famous for its Chardonnay, but – with a mere 350 cases made – the Syrah is perhaps the hidden gem of the portfolio. While the 2019 is yet to be rated, the 2018 and 2021 are stunning. Galloni gives clear insight into just how good the 2018 is, calling it “Sleek and silky to the core, the 2018 possesses exceptional balance and tons of pedigree.” For Lisa Perrotti-Brown, the 2021 is “bright as a penny, with a refreshing backbone and wonderfully plush tannins defining the perfumed black fruits.”
Not only is Kongsgaard’s Syrah a great wine, it also adds real cachet to any cellar as it is so rare. Those able to find it instantly join a very exclusive club.

“Deep garnet-purple in colour, the 2021 Hudson Vineyards Syrah charges out of the gate with powerful scents of blueberry preserves, baked plums, and black cherry compote leading to a fragrant perfume of violets, licorice, and tar with wafts of dried apricots and orange rind. The medium to full-bodied palate is bright as a penny, with a refreshing backbone and wonderfully plush tannins defining the perfumed black fruits, finishing long and floral.” Drink 2025–2045. (2024)
